Description
Abstract
For several decades now, some artistic practices related to nature are increasingly being linked to the ecological issues and the social movements which give rise to this concerns, to the extent that “environmental art” is very often understood as synonymous of “ecological art”. In this article, the aim is to make a critic review of this fake relationship. First of all, we try to distinguish different areas inside the term “ecological”. In addition, the social construction of “ecology” and “sustainability” are dealt with, in order to establish analogies in the artistic field. Afterwards, on the basis of an ecological analysis of some well known art works, the heterogeneity of process and contents that lie behind the categorization “environmental art” are proposed. Finally, some elements for the debate are suggested.
