Abstract
--------------------
Gender equality benefits the whole society. This paper compares the situation of the countries of the European Union in terms of gender equality, and analyzes whether the countries with greater inequalities (the orientals) have managed to reduce the gap with the most advanced (the nordics) in the period 2005-2015. We examined σ-convergence and β-convergence using panel data from the Gender Equality Index for the 28 countries of the Union. The results show a certain approach in terms of gender equality. This convergence is conditioned by the educational differences between the countries.
