Abstract
The paper seeks to review the brief but intense history of the Frepaso, trying to explain that his rapid political cycle of quick rise and crushing decomposition was largely due to the type of structure with which the party was built, with a omnipresent leadership on the part of Alvarez which led to a marked institutional weakness. Thus it is emphasized that because of the personalism that the Frepaso acquired, the party developed three institutional weaknesses: the organizational, the identity and the programmatic. In this way, party deficits would be projected in the conformation of the Alliance and in the experience of government it entailed, so that everything would finally contribute to the rapid disintegration of the Frepaso in 2001
