Abstract
zona analizada
Tourism is one of the most important economic sectors over the world. Its relevance shows spatial inequalities, concentrating on certain geographic areas, as is the case of the Mediterranean region. In terms of income from tourism and international arrivals, Spain occupies the third position in the world. The north of the province of Alicante constitutes an example of the large territorial transformations derived from the democratization of the tourism phenomenon. Among the basic resources that favored the tourist vocation of this territory, the common conditions of the atmospheric environment plays an important role. However more attention should also be paid to climatic paroxysms. Regarding this, special attention should be paid to flash floods, due to its spasmodic character and the aggravating effects that the tourist implantation generated in the analyzed territory. To analyze flash floods, both those with the ordinary and the extraordinary character, four municipalities in the north of the province of Alicante have been selected: Benidorm, Calpe, Jávea y Denia. The method has been marked by the use of techniques qualitative of collection and analysis of information and the empiricism. The main results show how the urbanization of basins of small dimensions and the urban occupation of alluvial fans and their distal sectors, as well as the loss of traditional territorial functionality, it has amplified the effects of ordinary and extraordinary floods in the analyzed area.
