Description
Abstract
In a regional context which lies in between two opposing scenarios: that of globalization, an unprecedented evolution and progress in science and technology, the expansion of the information and knowledge society, and the growth of educational demands and opportunities, on the one hand, and that of growing social injustice, poverty, unequal opportunities, and new political, ideological situations in Latin America, on the other hand, regional integration becomes a necessary, convenient, urgent answer. Such integration must include solidarity and community values, and needs to promote social and cultural values from a community perspective aiming to build common paths. Communication and media degrees face a double challenge. First, the curricula must include the concept of integration which should be developed as a competence and worked upon across course programs. Second, it is necessary to adopt an international focus so that these studies allow for self-assessment and reflection on the professional training in the field, through strategic agreements, which are internationally accredited, through innovation in distance, online, transnational education and through international presence.
