Abstract
El presente estudio aborda la construcción de identidades fronterizas en el
contexto de la inmigración latinoamericana en España a finales del siglo XX y
principios del XXI, a partir de la novela Una tarde con campanas (2004), del
venezolano Juan Carlos Méndez Guédez. Para ello, tras exponer la trayectoria vital y
literaria de su autor, el análisis se centra en dos conceptos fundamentales en la obra,
la lengua y el sueño, enfocándose en el narrador protagonista, un niño venezolano
recién llegado a Madrid. Por un lado, la variedad lingüística de este es percibida en su
nuevo entorno como otra, lo que genera una autopercepción negativa que repercute
en la conformación de su identidad. Por otro, su mundo onírico esconde, a través de
símbolos y mitos, el viaje que debe recorrer, desde el dolor por la pérdida hasta la
síntesis con un nuevo mundo. El análisis se realiza a partir de ejemplos extraídos de la
novela en los que el tono poético informa de la visión adánica del protagonista acerca
de su realidad desfavorable. Así, se pretende demostrar la relevancia de ambos
conceptos a la hora de enfrentar una infancia enmarcada en un contexto por explorar,
que necesita de la integración y el encuentro entre culturas.
The present study approaches the construction of border identities in the context of Latin American immigration in Spain at the end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first, based on the novel Una tarde con campanas (2004), by the Venezuelan author Juan Carlos Méndez Guédez. To do that, after exposing the life and literary trajectory of its author, the analysis focuses on two essential concepts in the novel, language and dream, concentrating on the hero narrator, a Venezuelan child who has just arrived in Madrid. On the one hand, his linguistic variety is perceived in his new environment as another, what makes a negative self-perception that has consequences on his identity configuration. On the other, his dreams hide, through symbols and myths, the journey he must travel, from pain of loss to synthesis with a new world. The analysis is based on examples taken from the novel in which the poetic style reports the child’s innocent look at his unfavorable reality. Thus, it is intended to demonstrate the relevance of both concepts in order to face a childhood framed in a context to explore, which needs integration and encounter between cultures.
