Description
Abstract
The figures of artists in Daudet’s short stories belong to various types: poets, sculptors, musicians or painters. From the Lettres de mon moulin (1869) to Les Femmes d’artistes (1874), their representation reveals their relationship to freedom from an individual, sociological and historical point of view. As a poet storyteller, Daudet confronts the artist with the truth, marriage, war and history, even offering a self-portrait. These youthful short stories contain the seeds of the whole future work of the novelist.
