Currently, there is no consensus regarding which ROM assessment method is the most appropriate. The main objective of this study was to perform a systematic review of the test batteries available for the assessment of lower limb ROM; additionally, we compare the ROM-SPORT I battery with those previously reported in the literature. The systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The identification of publications was made by using the databases SciELO, Medline, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science. Based on the inclusion criteria, sixteen publications were selected and analyzed. The ROM-SPORT I battery is the most valid of the analyzed methods. This battery evaluates the ROM of eleven lower limb movements. The inclinometer with a telescopic arm and a box is a simpler, more comfortable, and faster procedure than others. The Lumbosant support and use of two examiners are essential to avoid compensatory movements to obtain reliable measurements during ROM assessment. The ROM-SPORT I is a field-based battery of tests that may be used by sports professionals, clinics, and researchers in applied settings to accurately assess and monitor lower extremity ROM.
- PublicationOpen AccessDevelopment of flexibility in 17–18-year-old Savat boxers(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de Publicaciones, 2025) Konovalchuk, Anastasiia; Mordyk, Мykola; Bakiko, Ihor; Hrebik, Oleh; Sin departamento asociadoFrench Savate boxing is growing in popularity in Ukraine, making the study of physical qualities, such as flexibility, essential for athletic success. Flexibility is a critical factor in executing complex, coordinated strikes in Savate. This study aimed to assess the flexibility levels of 17- to 18-year-old Savate boxers and explore methods to enhance it. The research was conducted at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University in Lutsk with ten healthy students aged 17-18, who had 1-2 years of Savate training experience and voluntarily participated with informed consent. The flexibility of the participants was evaluated using tests for shoulder joint mobility, hip joint mobility, and overall flexibility through specific exercises. The study involved theoretical research, practical assessment, and the implementation of an experimental flexibility training method. The results showed significant improvements (p<0.05) in flexibility specific to Savate boxing, leading to better execution of complex strikes such as Chasse frontal, Chasse lateral, and Chasse tournant during sparring sessions. The findings highlight the importance of targeted flexibility training in improving athletic performance in Savate boxing. This experimental method demonstrated effectiveness and has potential for broader application in the training of Savate fighters.
- PublicationOpen AccessEffects of a 10-week dry-land strength and conditioning program in physical capacities and start of previouslyfederated and regular swimming practitioners(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de publicaciones, 2022) Silva, Carlos; Jesus, João; Vilarigues, Iuri; Aranha, Ivo; Candeias, Iuri; Santos, Fernando; Figueiredo, Teresa; Espada, MárioThe aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a 10-week strength and conditioning (S&C)program in physical capacities and start in previously federated and regular swimming practitioners. 16 swimmers (9 male, 17.00±2.16 years of age, 179.14±5.76 cm of height and 69.79±3.11 kg of weight; 7 female, 15.86±2.34 years of age, 163.86±4.98 cm of height and 60.19±3.60 kg of weigh) were equality, but randomly separated in two groups (control group and experimental group, CG and EG, respectively). In the pre-test, swimmers performed three starts in two different models, grab start and track start, the best start was registered. Kinematic parameters of the swimming start and time at 15 m were determined. Flexibility, countermovement jump and 3 kg medicine ball throw were also assessed. In post-test, 10-weeks after a regular 2-sessions week specific dry-land S&C program of 60 min was performed by the EG, all tests were repeated. Flexibility, strength and muscular power gains were significant in EG, contrarily to CG. Swimming start flight phase variables improved more in EG compared to CG, with specificities observed in grab and track start but not a linear consequence with performance in 15-m mark in both groups. A 10-week dry-land S&C program can provide benefits in physical capacities in regular swimming practitioners, fact that may improve the initial phase of the swimming start, prior to the underwater moment, which should deserve attention by the coaches in daily training aiming performance enhancement at 15 m.
- PublicationOpen AccessEffects of age and maturation on lower extremity range of motion in male youth soccer players(2022-05) Robles Palazón, Francisco Javier; Ayala, Francisco; Cejudo Palomo, Antonio; De Ste Croix, Mark; Sainz de Baranda, Pilar; Santonja, Fernando; Actividad Física y del DeporteRestricted joint range of motion (ROM) has been considered as a primary risk factor for some sport-related injuries. Consequently, pre-participation assessment of lower extremity joints ROM could help identify youth soccer players at high risk of injury and to aid in the design of tailored age and maturational specific training interventions. The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the influence of chronological age and maturational stage on several lower extremity ROM measures, as well as to describe the lower extremity ROM profile using a comprehensive approach in youth soccer players. A total of 286 male youth soccer players ROM was assessed including: passive hip (extension [PHE], adduction with hip flexed 90º [PHADHF90º], flexion with knee flexed [PHFKF] and extended [PHFKE], abduction with hip neutral [PHABD] and flexed 90º [PHABDHF90º], external [PHER] and internal [PHIR] rotation), knee (flexion [PKF]) and ankle (dorsiflexion with knee flexed [ADFKF] and extended [ADFKE]) ROMs. Between-group differences were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA and magnitude-based decisions. The results only report statistically significant (p < 0.05; d > 0.5) and clinically relevant differences (> 8º) for the PKF ROM between U12 vs. U19, and Pre-PHV vs. Post-PHV groups. Furthermore, approximately 40%, 35% and 20% of players displayed restrictions in their PHFKE, PKF, and ADFKF ROM values, respectively. These findings emphasize the necessity of prescribing (across all age groups and periods of growth and maturation) compensatory measures in daily soccer training, and these exercises should be equally applied to both limbs with the aim of improving PHFKE, PKF and ADFKF ROM values.
- PublicationOpen AccessFood sharing in Odontomachus Troglodytes (Santschi) : a behavioral intermediate stage in the evolution of social food exchange in ants(Murcia: Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 1991) Lachaud, J.P.; Dejean, A.; Facultad de BiologíaThe ponerine ant Odontomachus troglodytes is well known for its predominantly predatory behavior but it is equally able to exploit sugars as well. Toe first worker to discover a honey droplet sometimes repelled later arrivals in ritualized «joust». After licking the honey, the workers formed it into droplets. They then carried it to the nest where it was stored. Toe droplets were also frequently redistributed to other colony workers by pseudotrophallaxis. This took place through an intermediary «receptionist» worker. Exploitation of carbohydrates leads, most frequently, to two types of trail recruitment: group recruitrnent by tandem running (reported for the first time in the genus Odontomachus), ora primitive form of mass recruitrnent by incitement to leave the nest and search for food. We draw a parallel between the complexity and the flexibility of O. troglodytes behavior and the leve! of behavioral evolution occupied by this species among members of the Ponerinre subfamily.

- PublicationOpen AccessLow range of shoulders horizontal abduction predisposes for shoulder pain in competitive young swimmers(Frontiers Media, 2019-03-06) Cejudo, Antonio; Sánchez Castillo, Sheila; Sainz de Baranda, Pilar; Carlos Gámez, Juan; Santonja Medina, Fernando; Cirugía, Pediatría y Obstetricia y GinecologíaThe prevalence of shoulder pain (SP) among competitive swimmers is high, and may profoundly restrict their ability to compete. This prospective cohort study investigated the association between 3 blocks of performance factors (anthropometric characteristics, sport experience and training regimen) and the presence of SP. The aims of the present study were: (a): to determine the profile of shoulder flexibility in young swimmers, (b) to analyze whether a restricted range of movement (ROM) could be a predictor of subsequent SP in young swimmers. 24 competitive young swimmers were measured in the 2016 pre-season. Measures of passive maximal shoulder extension (SE), flexion (SF), horizontal abduction (SHAB), abduction (SAB), horizontal adduction (SHADD), external (SER) and internal (SIR) rotation ROMs were taken. SP was prospectively monitored during the subsequent season using questionnaires. The data was analyzed via a binary logistic regression and ROC curves were calculated. At the follow-up, 16 swimmers (50%) had developed unilateral SP. Only reduced SHAB ROM was associated with SP [SP group 36.6◦ vs. pain-free group 41.5◦ ; p = 0.005, d = −0.96 (moderate effect sizes)]. Using the coordinates of the curves, the angle of SHAB ROM that most accurately identified individuals at risk of developing SP was determined to be 39◦ (sensibility 0.656 and 0.375 specificity). Swimmers with limited ROM (≤39◦ ) have 3.6 times higher risk of developing SP than swimmers with normal ROM (>39◦ ). This study clearly shows that low range of SHAB is a risk factor for developing SP in competitive young swimmers. In the studied data, a SHAB range of 39◦ was found to be the most appropriate cut-off point for prognostic screening.
- PublicationOpen AccessL’evoluzione del lavoro a tempo parziale in Spagna e Italia(2015-05-21) Ortiz García, Pilar; Cosimi, Laura; SociologíaThis article discusses the development and features of part-time work in Spain and Italy to determine, from a descriptive analysis, the factors involved in its growth. The analysis of the part-time growing trend since 2007, emphasizes how such a contract type is serving as a factor of occupational adjustment in the direction of labor flexibility, which is laid down by the recent labor market reforms in both countries. Flexibility does not act as a neutral element, as it affects particularly women. Part-time work, which traditionally presents advantages to a group seeking reconciliation through flexibility, as in Northern Europe countries, seems not to be a totally valid explanation of its progress in Spain and Italy, countries participating in the social and labor policies in the South.

- PublicationOpen AccessPost-covid19 features of short-term rental applications. Flexibility as a central aspect of airbnb in Barcelona(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de publicaciones, 2023) Mansilla, José; Quaglieri, Alan; Sánchez Bergara, SheilaThe Airbnb phenomenon in Barcelona has come to occupy a central role in the local public debate. This has all been substantially altered by the global spread of COVID-19. This scenario has promoted a reformulation of the tourist rental scene, of both regular rentals and those that were also involved in the local tourism scene on an informal and/or irregu-lar basis. In this article, we use this context as a starting point in order to analyse how this adaptation of the tourist rental sector has taken place in Barcelona, in relation to a flexible interpretation of the legislation on urban leases. In order to do that, the methodology uses is basically qualitative, although with the support of a survey in a way of triangulation system of research
- PublicationOpen AccessStraight Leg Raise Test: Influence of Lumbosant© and Assistant Examiner in Hip, Pelvis Tilt and Lumbar Lordosis(MDPI, 2020-06-02) Santonja Medina, Fernando; Santonja Renedo, Sara; Cejudo, Antonio; Ayala, Francisco; Ferrer, Vicente; Pastor, Antonio; Collazo Diéguez, Mónica; Rodríguez Ferrán, Olga; Andújar, Pilar; Sainz de Baranda, Pilar; Cirugía, Pediatría y Obstetricia y GinecologíaThe passive straight leg raise (PSLR) test is widely used to assess hamstring extensibility. However, to accurately measure hamstring extensibility throughout PSLR, appropriate stabilization of the pelvis must be provided in order to minimize the possible influence of any compensatory movement in the scores reached. The main purpose of this study was to demonstrate the degree of influence of the Lumbosant© and an assistant examiner in hamstring extensibility in healthy young adults. A secondary objective was to verify the variability of the posterior pelvic tilt movement. Hamstring muscle extensibility was measured using the traditional (only an examiner) and new (using a low-back protection support Lumbosant© and two trained [principal and assistant] examiners) PSLR procedures. Correlation coefficients were expressed using r values, accompanying descriptors and 90% confidence intervals. Variance explained was expressed via the R2 statistic. To examine possible differences, the Mann-Whitney U-test was conducted. Additionally, Cohen’s d was calculated for all results, and the magnitudes of the effect were interpreted and statistical significance set at p < 0.05. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to examine the relationship between scores and values. The final score that was determined with the new PSLR is significantly lower (13◦ approximately) than the one obtained through the traditional procedure (75.3 ± 14.4◦ vs. 89.2 ± 20.8◦ ; d = −0.777 [moderate]). The data presented in this study suggest that the PSLR may overestimate hamstring extensibility unless lumbopelvic movement is controlled. Therefore, we recommend the use of Lumbosant© and an auxiliary examiner to obtain more accurate hamstring extensibility scores.
