Description
Abstract
This article provides an overview of the current needs and challenges in designing training courses for interpreters in the medical field. A literature review explores research dedicated to healthcare interpreters and their specific training needs, which go beyond linguistic proficiency to include factors such as participant asymmetry, role dynamics, textual genres, and interpretation modalities. mo Based on this theoretical framework, various educational interventions are discussed to enhance pedagogical practices in healthcare interpreter training. These include case studies and role-playing exercises aimed at addressing the complexities of the interpreter's role and the necessity for specialized training in specific techniques and contexts. Additionally, the article emphasizes an approach that integrates practical training with theoretical reflection, drawing from influential research and publications in the field to inform effective educational strategies. This dual focus aims to prepare interpreters not only for the linguistic demands but also for the interactive and ethical challenges they will face in healthcare settings, ultimately improving the quality and effectiveness of medical interpretation and, therefore,of healthcare services in multilingual environments.
