Abstract
Chile posee un gran potencial turístico, gracias a sus diversos paisajes, cultura y patrimo-nio. Sin embargo, para desarrollar una oferta competitiva, se necesita formar profesionales con las competencias adecuadas. Se catalogaron las competencias declaradas en perfiles de estudio de diferentes carreras técnicas y profesionales de turismo en Chile, y se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva y prueba de hipótesis, para evaluar diferencias entre currí-culums técnicos y profesionales y ofrecer una comparación con otros currículums de países hispanoamericanos. Se encontró una amplia oferta pero con baja especialización en algunos ámbitos. Las competencias más comúnmente mencionadas fueron “orientación de servicio al cliente” en las carreras técnica y “dirigir y gestionar organizaciones turísticas” en carreras profesionales. Paradójicamente la oferta académica se concentra en la zona central de Chile, lejos de grandes destinos turísticos como Atacama o Patagonia. Esto puede generar una formación poco adaptada a las necesidades locales y carentes de identidad regional. Se resalta la necesidad de crear perfiles diferenciados para currículums técnicos y profesionales, fomentando a la vez, una mejor especialización en los distintos ámbitos del turismo
Chile has great tourism potential, thanks to its diverse landscapes, culture and heritage. However, in order to develop a competitive offer, it is necessary to train professionals with the appropriate competencies. The competencies declared in the study profiles of different technical and professional tourism careers in Chile were classified and analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and hypothesis testing to evaluate differences between technical and professional curricula and to offer a comparison with other curricula in Latin American countries. A wide offer was found, but with low specialization in some fields. The most commonly mentioned competencies were “customer service orientation” in technical careers and “leading and managing tourism organizations” in professional careers. Paradoxically, the academic offer is concentrated in central Chile, far from famous tourist destinations such as Atacama or Patagonia. This can generate training that is poorly adapted to local needs and lacks regional identity. The need to create differentiated profiles for technical and professio-nal curricula is highlighted, while promoting better specialization in the different areas of tourism
