Description
Abstract
Gender equity in science remains a challenge across various fields of knowledge, particularly in leadership and scientific authorship roles. This bibliometric study analyzes gender representation in the scientific publications of the Elche Health Department -General Hospital during the period 2019-2022, with the aim of evaluating the evolution of women's and men's participation in authorship positions, especially in leadership roles. To achieve this, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and SciELO, considering variables such as medical specialty, journal impact factor, and authorship position (first and last). The results revealed an initial increase in female authorship, followed by a decline, while men maintained predominance in final authorship positions. Non-surgical specialties showed greater female inclusion compared to surgical specialties. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated gender inequalities, reducing female visibility in scientific publications. These findings underscore the need for more inclusive and equitable policies, with specific strategies that promote gender equality in the scientific field, especially during times of crisis.
