Abstract
El presente trabajo establece respuestas a dos preguntas bien
diferentes, ¿cómo explicamos nuestra fascinación actual por los
sitios de turismo oscuro?, ¿Cuál es el rol de la modernidad en dicha
fascinación? Desde una perspectiva crítica a la literatura vigente
que no ha logrado resultados más que descriptivos, o
contradictorios, sostenemos que los sitios de turismo oscuro dejan
fuera de contexto la función esencial de la muerte llevando al sujeto
a la fragmentación y al solipsismo.
A diferencia del peregrino medieval que se movía por
necesidad, ya sea material, corporal o espiritual, el consumidor de
Turismo Dark no solo alude al sufrimiento del otro como un
mecanismo reforzador de su propia seguridad, sino que además le
recuerda que aún sigue en carrera con posibilidades de ganar el
premio mayor. En este sentido, el fenómeno no es muy diferente a
los realities como Gran Hermano en donde la victoria de uno
implica la muerte de casi todos.
ABSTRACT: This paper provides answers to two very different questions, how do we explain our current fascination with the dark tourism sites? What is the role of modernity in this fascination? From a critical perspective to the existing literature that has failed more than descriptive or conflicting results, we argue that dark tourism sites leave out of context the essential function of death leading the subject to fragmentation and solipsism In contrast to the medieval pilgrim moved by necessity, whether material, physical or spiritual, consumers Tourist Dark not only refers to the suffering of others as a reinforcing mechanism of its own security, but also reminds you still in the race with chances of winning the jackpot. In this sense, the phenomenon is not unlike reality shows like Big Brother where the victory of one implies the death of almost all.
