Description
Abstract
arrogante y excluyente
de los discípulos
, pero
no
se
public
ó
.
paradigmas.
The tribute dedicated in 2008 by the Catalan newspaper Avui to Noam Chomsky on his eightieth anniversary highlighted the scientific and political worth of a figure of thought. Seventeen academics, most of them disciples of Chomsky, praised the linguist who has cultivated generative grammar for more than fifty years, as well as his role as a political analyst. The collective congratulat ion was a festive episode inserted between the monthly appearances of Chomsky as a newspaper columnist. The editor of the newspaper received a letter of protest from the linguist Josep Moran Ocerinjauregui for the arrogant and exclusive spirit of the disci ples, but it was not published. A decade later, the reading of the tribute gives rise to questions about the mythification of the intellectual, the complacency of disciples and the controversy between currents of linguistics, which affect the recent histor y of linguistics and the critical memory of the struggle of paradigms.
