Description
Abstract
The Fundación MAPFRE Tina Modotti catalogue accompanies a major exhibition of the Italian-born artist and activist (1896–1942), presenting a comprehensive reconstruction of her life and work. It features around 240 photographs and extensive documentary material, tracing her evolution from early abstract interests to a human-centred approach that highlighted social inequality and workers’ conditions during her Mexican years. The book also explores her roles as both photographer and anti-fascist revolutionary, emphasises her relationship with Spain, and includes essays by several scholars that contextualise her artistic and political impact within 1920s–30s cultural history.
