- PublicationOpen AccessInfluencia de la formación inicial del profesorado en los hábitos lectores y en el concepto de educación literaria(Asociación Española de Comprensión Lectora, 2019) Juárez Calvillo, MaríaThe objectives of this work are to investigate the reading profile of future Primary Education teachers and to reflect on their concept of reading and literary education. In this case, we are analysing and contrasting the answers given by the students of first and fourth Year in Primary Education in order to verify their learning and the change of perspective between the students who begin and what they are finishing their education. The informants, a total of 291 students, 137 students are in first year and 154 students are in fourth year of the Primary Education degree at the University of Cadiz during the academic year 2018/2019, were asked to answer a questionnaire on motivation for academic reading. Qualitative items were added to this questionnaire in order to describe the future teacher as a didactic reader. The results reflect a poor reading population whose concept of literary education is poor and does not respond to the expected specialization as one progresses in the formation of the degree. These findings make us reflect on the design of the initial training in order to guarantee that the students have access to the exercise of teaching with a solid epistemological framework and dominating a series of strategies to carry out an effective reading and literary mediation.
- PublicationOpen AccessComprensión lectora y el rendimiento académico enEducación Primaria = Reading comprehension and academic performance in Elementary Education(Asociación Española de Comprensión Lectora, 2019) Viramontes Anaya, Efrén; Amparán Muro, Anahí; Núñez Sifuentes, Luz DivinaThis research addresses the issue of reading comprehension and the relationship with academic performance in third-grade elementary students. The purpose is to assess the links that both variables have and to become aware of the importance of reading in academic processes in general. The study was developed in two third-grade groups of a Mexican elementary school, whose ages are between eight, and nine years old, the socioeconomic level is average and the urban context is small, nestled in a rural area. The methodology was developed under a quantitative approach, interviewing and observation helped interpret students' reading levels and types of blunders in it; there was a descriptive variable analysis, as well as the calculation of Spearman correlations and Student ttest for independent samples. The results indicate that comprehension is significantly correlated with academic achievement and that the condition of being male or female is not associated with reading comprehension levels; however, there are coincidences with other investigations that women present slightly higher levels.
- PublicationOpen AccessDiseño y validación de la batería de competencia literaria (BCL)(Asociación Española de Comprensión Lectora, 2019) Mínguez-López, Xavier; Alfonso Benlliure, VicenteThe objective of this work is to present the process of design and validation of the Literary Competence Battery (BCL). The Battery consists of three scales: Literary Concepts Scale (ECL), Literary Procedures Scale (EPL) and Attitudes towards Literature Scale (EAL). The acquisition of Literary Competence (CL) is the main objective of the so-called Literary Education. However, there are few methods to measure this competence and most of them present practical problems that limit their standardization. A total of 221 adolescents participated in the design and validation process. Studies were conducted on the properties of the tests including measures of reliability, difficulty of the items, adjustment, etc. Finally, the study of the validity of the scales was carried out by analyzing the correlations between the test scores and two external CL measures: the assessment of a practical exercise performed by the students by expert judges and the assessment carried out by the professors of the Literature subject on the student's performance in said subject. The results of the study show that BCL can be a reliable and valid instrument for the evaluation of CL in adolescents.
