Description
Abstract
internacionales.
ABSTRACT: In November of 1975 dictator Francisco Franco dies on a hospital bed. Between the late 1960s and 1978, when a new, democratic, constitution is approved, Spain was alive with transformative impulses that surpassed the mere criticism of the dictatorship. The art world was astir with intense debates about the sense of artistic practice in a society subjugated for several decades by a totalitarian regime. In the end, this debate was silenced and left unresolved as a new notion of art became dominant: art as a consumer fetish, token of a new, democratic Spain that had allegedly become normalized in relation to international standards.
