Description
Abstract
In the educational context, anxiety is one of the main problems among university students. This study analyzed the profile of students in the four years of the Bachelor's Degree in Social Education at the University of Murcia based on their perceptions of the anxiety and academic pressure they have experienced throughout their university careers. This student perspective was also studied, taking into account crucial factors such as gender, age, course, group, possible experience in therapy, use of medication to combat anxiety, and whether they have ever felt pressure to achieve good grades, and from whom. The results obtained through the Self-Assessment Questionnaire of Anxiety (STAIC-R),show that students claim to feel anxiety and pressure quite frequently, appearing, after a two-stage hierarchical cluster analysis, two different anxiety profiles, where the young people who make up the second cluster perceive feeling higher levels of anxiety, having sought help from a professional for anxiety issues, even resorting to the use of drugs for this reason. In addition, they claim that the origin of the pressure to achieve high grades is their self-demand. It is therefore more than evident that there is a need to promote healthy habits through specific mental health programmes and policies for the university population.
