Description
Abstract
This paper aims to study the relationship between the Severan dynasty emperors Caracalla, Heliogabalus and Alexander Severus and their respective mothers. However, we will also look at how Septimius Severus employed his wife, Julia Domna, as part of his dynastic policy, where the concept of motherhood was one of the most important aspects used to explain his actions. In order to achieve our aims, we have taken into account the main references of classieal authors, mainly Cassius Dio, Herodian and the Historia Augusta, as well as the main theories offered by the scientific literature.
