Description
Abstract
Abstract: In this article, we analyze the cooking ceramics from a Byzantine Christian monastery located in southern Egypt, at Qubbet el-Hawa (Aswan). The study of the types of pots and vessels provides us with a novel perspective on the inhabitants of the monastery over several centuries and historical phases. Thus, through the examination of cooking containers, we can observe that in the early phases of the settlement (6th century), the identified utensils reflect an occupation of the spaces in an ascetic manner. Starting from the 7th century, the cooking vessels undergo changes, and new consumption patterns are introduced, indicating a shift in the occupation of its inhabitants.
