Abstract
En el Archivo General de Indias en Sevilla, España, fue descubierto un diseño de una
medalla previamente desconocido sobre Cuba. Según las fuentes primarias encontradas en el
Archivo, la medalla sería otorgada a los soldados que capturaban esclavos fugitivos
(cimarrones) a principios del siglo XIX (1820) en la Isla de Cuba. El diseño de esta medalla es
una adición importante a la numismática en la historia de Cuba y el Caribe.
In the General Archives of the Indies in Seville, Spain, a previously unknown medal design from Cuba was discovered. According to the primary documents found at the Archive, the medal would be awarded to soldiers who captured runaway slaves during the early 19th Century (1820) in the Island of Cuba. The medal design is an important addition to numismatics and medal designs in the history of Cuba and the Caribbean.
