Description
Abstract
This paper examines the role of the magazine Arte Español (1953–1959) as a platform for disseminating and legitimising Spanish dance and music in Argentina, primarily targeting the Spanish community. This magazine stood out among other publications for its comprehensive approach to promoting various aspects of Spanish culture, linking popular culture as a political use of folklore in the creation of national identity. The interaction between artists, spaces, and media reinforces the idea of a symbolic network that reproduces the aesthetics and discourses of Franco’s cultural regime, adapted to the Argentine context. Taken together, this corpus enables us to examine how dance expressions were inscribed in strategies of identity, legitimacy, and circulation during a period marked by tensions between nationalism, exile, and cultural propaganda.
