Description
Abstract
ABSTRACT: The article presents a methodological proposal for the identification of potential competitors in inland tourism spaces. The model includes a whole series of methodologies which must be applied successively. The methodological model firstly analyses the competitive potential of inland tourism spaces from variables related to spatial concentration of natural and heritage resources, accommodation supply and tourism demand. Later, after a process of homogenisation and weighting of results, the model obtains an objective classification of the main competing spaces in a pilot area. This paper provides a new tool for the spatial study of tourism competitiveness and competition, additionally generating specific results about the competitive capacity of Spanish autonomous regions in inland tourism matters and about the most relevant spaces which can potentially become competitors of inland areas in the Alicante province.
