Abstract
The return of political and institutional history to historiographical debates has brought a series of benefits to historical knowledge. In fact, the study of power relations, which also involves the connections between social groups in each geopolitical space, only makes sense when we offer an approach where the political and the institutional appear effectively. Focusing our analysis on the Hispanic-Visigothic kingdom of Toledo in the 6th and 7th centuries, we will observe that the forces of aristocratic groups and regionalism emerged as a counterpoint to the royal power, thus causing acts of rebellion understood as treason to the pacts and oaths made. Exile and confinement arose as a result of the application of royal justice that intended to curb those actions considered illegitimate. Of the examples indicated by the Hispano-Visigoth documentation, we highlight what was described by Valério do Bierzo, since we consider that his writings reveal such actions.
