Respecto a los conflictos entre criollos y peninsulares, Oviedo es el primer

Satiric poetry reflects main problems in Colonial Spanish America . Literary critics stress, due to their frequency and relevance, two fields: conflicts between creole American inhabitants and Peninsular Spanish people, and attacks against women. These t wo topics are developed in Quinquagenas , by Fernández de Oviedo, the first poetry book written in the New World. Regarding misogyny, Quinquagenas evidences the connection between the European medieval view and the Colonial Spanish American one. In relation 2 to the conflicts between creole inhabitants and Peninsular people, Oviedo is the first poet who satirizes the newcomers, using arguments that will be resumed by creollist discourses. In both cases, the analysis of this work offers a starting point to unde rstand the origin and development of these topics in Spanish American literature.
