Description
Abstract
Throughout most of the Art History, the role of women in different artistic fields, including photography, has been underestimated. For this reason, this research has been focused on the active role of Spanish women during the nineteenth century in photography as professional and amateur. At the same time, we will stand up for the women assistants, retouchers, and illuminators who worked in the photographic studios, becoming one of the jobs that women were able to do. However, it has been pointed out how this new artistic field was used to disseminate and transmit the new image and the new rules of conduct that a bourgeois women had to maintain having to comply with the idea of the sweet "angel of the home".
