Description
Abstract
de investigación (Ministerio de Cultura y Competitividad, Proyectos I+D+i),
Interlingual and intercultural mediation is a type of translation-interpretation carried out by intercultural mediators in public service settings whose aim is to create a common framework for coexistence between people of other cultures / languages and the staff working in public places such as the fields of health, law, etc.. Despite being a relatively new profession, much research has been done on the role and training of these professionals (Castiglioni 1997, Valero 2003, among others), however the challenge of a lack of awareness of the need for social actors is still present. Following such research, at the University of Alcala we are working on a research project (Ministerio de Cultura y Competitividad, Proyectos I+D+i), which aims to design, coordinate and monitor a team of mediators carrying out their work in different health centers in the region of Madrid.
