Becoming Critical hoy

Abstract

Veinticinco años después de su publicación en España se hace una revisión del libro Becoming Critical. De las cuestiones planteadas, habría que revisar su idea de profesor investigador en las condiciones actuales de trabajo del profesorado, la transformación que ha sufrido la investigación- acción y, en general, las dificultades que hoy encuentra el profesorado ante el auge de la racionalidad técnica y el cientificismo. Se trata de cuestionar la adscripción de Becoming Critical al pensamiento moderno para ver si tiene vigencia la idea de emancipación y de investigación-acción crítica, y si, por otra parte, deben ser incorporadas determinadas aportaciones del pensamiento posmoderno.

A review of the book Becoming Critical is made after twenty-five years of its publication in Spain. Among the issues that were raised, the concept of teacher-researcher in the teachers’ current working conditions, the changes that action-research has undergone and, in general, the difficulties that teachers face today with the rise of scientism and technical reasoning, should be all revised nowadays. The purpose is to question the validity of Becoming Critical to modern thinking to see whether the concepts of emancipation and critical action-research are valid, and also if certain contributions of postmodernist thinking should be incorporated.
