Servicio de Publicaciones, 2019-12-26) Rugg, JulieThis paper challenges the contention that secularity is always central to the idea of the cemetery. In largely England a ‘culture war’ was enjoined between supporters of the Church of England and various denominations of Protestant Dissent. The cemetery was a focus of conflict, centred on the degree of control exercised by the Established Church. This conflict did not reflect demand for ‘civic’ funerals. Protestant Nonconformists sought to secure burial space where they might express their own beliefs. Through the 19 th century and up until the First World War, the framing of burial law was accompanied by divisive debate. Cemeteries came to signify both religious freedom and the oppressive influence of the Established Church. Cemetery establishment was also accompanied by regulation on sanitary burial management, but this did not define burial space as being innately secular. Rather, in England the cemetery was, and remains, a spatial co-production of sanitary technology, municipal bureaucracy and spiritual expression.

Servicio de Publicaciones, 2019-12-26) Martínez Vicente, MónicaLos cambios que se están produciendo en la sociedad actual manifiestan también nuevas necesidades en la manera de despedirnos y recordarnos, lo que afecta directamente a la arquitectura funeraria de tanatorios y sobre todo de cementerios. A través de la «arquitectura emocional» se puede intervenir en los cementerios existentes para mejorar la percepción que transmiten a los usuarios y naturalizar los procesos de pérdida. En las futuras ampliaciones o construcción de nuevas instalaciones y/o cementerios deben tenerse en cuenta todas estas cuestiones de la arquitectura que conecta con las personas.

Servicio de Publicaciones, 2019-12-26) Fischer, NorbertDer Artikel gibt einen Überblick über die europäische Friedhofskultur seit dem Mittelalter und die Veränderungen dieses zentralen Ortes der Erinnerungskultur. Die ersten beiden Kapitel behandeln die Bestattung in Kirchen in der frühen Neuzeit und die Verlagerung der Friedhöfe vor die Tore der Städte. Das dritte Kapitel beschreibt die Bewegung der Parkfriedhöfe in 19. Jahrhundert. Im folgenden Abschnitt wird die bürgerliche Grabmalkultur dieser Epoche diskutiert. Kapitel fünf ist der Feuerbestattung gewidmet und wird im folgenden Abschnitt zur Aschenbeisetzung vertieft. Kapitel sechs geht der gegenwärtigen Exterritorialisierung am Beispiel der Naturbestattungen nach. Das siebte Kapitel beschreibt abschließend neuere Tendenzen der Friedhofskultur.
