- PublicationOpen AccessEvaluación de competencias en entornos virtuales de aprendizaje y docencia universitaria(2010) Zapata, MiguelIn this paper we start with the description of a case of implementation of a methodology of assessment in a higher education context, within the frame of organizational change implied by the compliance of the standards set by the European Space for Higher Education. The case described is an academic experience with a strong faculty development component and online learning activities.Taking this case as reference and as we describe it, we address different dimensions and constituent elements: meaning and sense of competences in this context, their assessment, methods and tools, and problems related to virtual teaching. The problem of academic integrity and authentication. We stress the importance of having meaningful experiences that help to study, understand, research and develop new endeavors based on what has already been done, as well as of reviewing concepts, analyzing the assessment system, and reflecting on the new situations and factors within which learning assessment and competence acquisition take place. We also reflect on and take as object of study the new profiles of previous and developing competences, the present factors that lead to risk of academic plagiarism, and activities authorship. Finally, we offer a model in the conclusion.
- PublicationOpen AccessCompetencias profesionales y empleo en el futuro periodista: El caso de los estudiantes de periodismo de la Universidad Albat Oliva CEU(2010) Sierra Sánchez, JavierWe present a research study focused into two different aspects; the achievement of professional competences in graduate students in journalism at Universitat Abat Oliba (UAO), together with the importance that they concede to several aspects related to an employment. We extract data from the Reflex Report of ANECA entitled, 'The flexible professional in the Information Society' stablishing its comparison with our own sources obtained from the graduate students in journalism at UAO. We also reflect empirical evidence of different levels of professional competence performance from last academic year graduate students in journalism from the old program (named 'licenciatura').This research study has been launched with a long-term vocation based on two main objectives; first, to become a parameter of quality learning in journalism in education at UAO, and second, to explore the different levels of divergence and convergence between the graduate students coming from the old journalism program and those others from the new one based on the european university reform. Therefore, we will be able to internally asses or monitor UAO in order to find out its real state of the art in terms of evolution to the new framework.
- PublicationOpen AccessLa evaluación en el contexto del Espacio Europeo de Educación Superior(2010) del Canto, Pablo; Gallego, Isabel; López, José Manuel; Mochón, Francisco; Mora, Javier; Reyes, Angelica; Rodríguez, Eva; Sanjeevan, Kanapathipillai; Santamaría, Eduard; Valero, MiguelEvaluation is always an element of concern to all involved in the educational process (teachers, students, academic, etc.). However, evaluation is a very broad concept with many different facets, and not all these facets are given the same attention. Evaluate, of course, is to assign a grade that reflects the level of learning. But evaluate is also to identify what needs to be improved for the next course. In our article, based on Donald Kirkpatrick's model of the different dimensions of evaluation, we describe the strategies and techniques currently used to deploy a system of comprehensive evaluation in the context of the adaptation process of our first year engineering courses to the requirements of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Precisely in the context of EHEA dimensions of evaluation that normally receive little attention, such as the monitoring of student activity (or lack of activity) acquire a very important significance.
