- PublicationOpen AccessLe pouvoir dévastateur du regard chez Nelly Arcan: de l’œil photographique à l’œil médusant.(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones., 2018) Picazo, María DoloresAbstract: This work by Nelly Arcan is among the most radical ultra-contemporary rewrites of the myth of Medusa. The narrative, which focuses entirely on the theme of the gaze, points to its ambiguity –both terrifying and attractive- as well as its multiformity, by simultaneously proposing a dual and inverse interpretation of the myth. However, the autofictional nature of À ciel ouvert also makes it a ruthless criticism of the burden borne by today’s women with regard to their physical attractiveness. So much so that, feeling more and more observed and photographed, some women end up hiding under a cloak of sophisticated and painful treatments, a sort of “Burqa of flesh”, in an attempt to build a customized and unalterable body. Our article will show this dual dimension of the novel embodied in the theme of the gaze, by analysing the scopic function that is developed in the story through the professional relationships of the three characters, whose professions demand a proactive involvement of the gaze.
- PublicationOpen AccessFicción autográfica y autografía ficcional: La busca del jardín y Ce que la nuit raconte au jour de Héctor Bianciotti.(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones., 2018) Ori, JuliaAbstract: This article compares two autobiographical works of the French-Argentinian writer, Héctor Bianciotti: La busca del jardín (1977), written in Spanish, and Ce que la nuit raconte au jour (1992), published in French. Narratological methods are used in order to analyze the relationship between the author, the narrator and the character and the spatio-temporal structure of the texts. The Spanish story is written in third person in the form of a dictionary and tends to metaphorization. The French work is told in first person with a more important temporal and spatial coherence. Their comparison demonstrates that the change of language between the writing of the two books could provoke different autofigurations and mean in a certain way for Bianciotti finding himself in the language of adoption.
- PublicationOpen AccessLa presencia de la materia epistolar en el Nouveau Roman y el Nouveau Théâtre.(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones., 2018) Monterrubio, LourdesAbstract: The present article aims to analyse the presence of the epistolary material in the literary renovation materialised by the scriptural practices of the New Novel and The Theatre of the Absurd. The analysis of the different works –La Dernière Bande (1959) by Samuel Beckett, Le Fiston and Lettre morte (1959) by Robert Pinget, Histoire (1967) by Claude Simon, Correspondance and Réflexions (1968) by Louis Palomb, Aurélia Steiner (1979) by Marguerite Duras– will allow us to determine how their authors instrumentalise the epistolary material to show the impossibility of its realization. The epistolary device then becomes a tool of the rule-breaking practices of these new literary experiences, causing a metamorphosis of the letter that is essential in its evolution within the literary and theatrical space. The missive is generated as a radical expression of subjectivity and as a denial of its communicative characteristics and its possibilities of self-objectivation; it shows a identitary crisis which materialises in the human being’s inability to narrate and narrate oneself, to comunícate.
- PublicationOpen AccessDu côté des marginaux: le personnage d’Ahmed dans La tour de la Défense (1978) de Copi.(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones., 2018) Vásquez Sáenz, Henry F.Abstract: Copi, writer, playwright and draughtsman Argentino settles in Paris in 1962 until his death in 1987. The experience of exile and wandering marks the personal and creative trajectory of this intercultural artist. Indeed, a whole series of vulnerable and marginal characters swarm in their particular universe and subvesivo. In this space of the excluded, the figure of the immigrant Maghreb in France, embodied in the character of Ahmed, acquires all its significance. In this work we will try to analyse the symbolic value of Ahmed, heir to the colonial past marked by rejection, which appears in the Teatro de Copi, specifically in La Défense Tour (1978). Ahmed’s image traces an invisible and symbolic line that separates the two shores of the Mediterranean: the Maghrebi and the French. This dichotomy leaves behind a world of opposite and ambivalent feelings of desire and hatred, love and violence, happiness and misfortunes where the author always Posisionará on the side of the oppressed. Will Ahmed be the symbol of freedom and tolerance, the embodiment of the true solidarity values forgotten by the French society?
- PublicationOpen AccessProstitution et échanges sexuels: de l’optique occidentale à la réalité maghrébine.(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones., 2018) Perales, Juan JoséAbstract: Prostitution in Morocco has had the same features as in any other part of the world, though colonialism has contributed to its development. Being independent and living out of the family’s control meant their sexual relations were illicit, no different from sex work, as suggested by the use of the word zinâ (fornication) which includes all sorts of illicit and illegal relations. Nowadays, there are adult and young women who share apartments and pay this independence with their own well-earned money or the money given by their lover(s) as a gift, an exchange which is tolerated by society, since not getting anything from the men they have sexual relations with would not be right. Nevertheless, the loss of virginity implies the impossibility of coming into marriage, so long awaited by large numbers of women. Virginity is then guaranteed by the preservation of the hymen through different sexual practices not involving vaginal penetration.
