- PublicationOpen AccessAge-related differences in flexibility in soccer players 8-19 years old(Peer Community In, 2019-01-29) De Ste Croix, Mark; Ayala Rodríguez, Francisco; Cejudo Palomo, Antonio; Robles Palazón, Francisco Javier; Ortega Toro, Enrique; Santonja Medina, Fernando; Sainz de Baranda Andújar, Pilar; Actividad Física y DeporteBackground. Muscle flexibility is a main component of health-related fitness and one of the basic components of fitness for the performance in some sports. Sport and health professionals require the flexibility profile of soccer to define quantitative aims in the training of flexibility. The aim of this study was to identify age-related differences in lower extremity flexibility in youth soccer players. Methods. Seventy-two young male soccer players (age: 13.0 ± 3.1 y; body mass: 50.5 ± 15.3 kg; stature 158.2 ± 16.8 cm; BMI: 19.6 ± 2.6 kg/m2) completed this study. Measures of eleven passive hip (hip extension (HE), hip adduction with hip flexed 90º (HAD-HF90º), hip flexion with knee flexed (HF-KF) and extended (HF-KE), hip abduction with hip neutral (HAB) and hip flexed 90º (HAB-HF90º), hip external (HER) and internal (HIR) rotation), knee (knee flexion (KF)) and ankle dorsiflexion (ankle dorsiflexion with knee flexed (ADF-KF) and extended (ADF-KE)) ranges of motion (ROM) were taken. Descriptive statistics were calculated for hip, knee and ankle ROM measured separately by leg (dominant and non-dominant) and age-group (U10, U12, U14, U16 and U19). The data was analysed using a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) to examine the interaction of 11 ROM in the different players' age-group. Results. Generally, U10 and/or U12 soccer players obtain the highest mean value in almost all ROM evaluated (U10: HAD-HF [39.6º ± 4.3º], ADF-KE [32.3º ± 4.1º], HER [63.5º ± 5.6º] and HAB-HF90º [64.1º ± 7.5º); U12: HE [17.7º ± 6.2º], HAB [35.6º ± 3.0º], HIR [60.8º ± 4.7º] and KF [133.8º ± 7.1º]). Nonetheless, significant differences between the players' age-groups are just found in HAD-HF90º (p = .042; ES = .136), HAB (p = .001; ES = .252), HIR (p = .001; ES = .251), HER (p < .001; ES = .321) and HAB-HF90º (p < .001; ES = .376) ROM, showing a progressive and irregular decrease in these ROM until the U19 team. Conclusion. The findings of this study reinforce the necessity of prescribing exercises aimed at improving HAD-HF90º ROM in U16, HAB ROM in U14, HIR ROM in U16 and U19, HER ROM in U12 and U19, and HAB-HF90º ROM in U16 and U19 players within everyday soccer training routines.
- PublicationOpen AccessAnalysis of nostalgia sport tourism in football fans of Persian Gulf Pro League(Murcia: Servicio de publicaciones de la Universidad de Murcia, 2020) Zare, Saeed; Zarei, Alí; Tejari, FarshadThe purpose of this study was to analyse nostalgia sport tourism in football fans of Persian Gulf Pro League. The sample of the study consis-ted of 210 football fans of Persian Gulf Pro League. The participants were selected through stratified random sampling. The Nostalgia Scale for Sport Tourism by Cho (2014) was used to collect the data. Confirmatory factor analysis of structural equations was used to analyse the hypotheses of the study. It was found that nostalgia has an effect on the behavioural inten-tions and attitude of football fans and that attitude has not a mediating role in the relationship between nostalgia and behavioural intentions of football fans. The nostalgia of the spectators is related to several factors, such as the sport environment and the experiences that the fans live together when they go to sport events. In conclusion, those football fans of Persian Gulf Pro League who have a positive attitude toward the football games may have better behavioural tendencies and, in the future, this can create nostalgic emotions.
- PublicationOpen AccessCompetitive psychological disposition and perception of performance in young female soccer players(Frontiers Media, 2019-05-22) Olmedilla Zafra, Aurelio; Ruíz Barquín, Roberto; Ponseti, Francisco Javier; Robles Palazón, Francisco Javier; García Mas, Alexandre; Personalidad, Evaluación y Tratamiento PsicológicosThe athletes’ psychological disposition is a factor that is increasingly considered by researchers as a key to sports performance, even as a mediator between the physical, technical and tactical abilities of the athlete and their competitive performance, thus acquiring great relevance in training and in sports performance. The purpose of this study is to analyze the psychological characteristics of young soccer players and their relation to their performance perception, made both by the player herself and by their coaches. The sample is composed of 108 women (M age = 15.53, SD age = 1.05), with ages between 13 and 17 years (13 years, n = 1, 14 years, n = 18, 15 years, n = 36, 16 years, n = 29, 17 years, n = 24), and with a sport practice experience of 7.27 years on average (SD = 2.64). For to address this aim, we used the Psychological Characteristics related to the Sport Performance Questionnaire (CPRD) and the Psychological Skills Inventory for Sports (PSIS). In addition, regarding the evaluation of performance perception, an ad hoc short questionnaire was created, composed by one question addressed to the player and one directed to the coach. The results indicate that the group of players of the under-16 category obtained higher scores in all the psychological dimensions than the U-18 players, showing significant differences in Team Cohesion (p < 0.048). Regarding the degree of congruence between the player’s psychological features, and the player’s and coach’s performance perceptions, the results show statistically significant and negative correlations between the Team Cohesion factor and the athlete’s own outcome perception for the match #1 (rxy = 0.479; p < 0.001), and match #2 (rxy = 0.402; p < 0.01). The results of this study may contribute to establish the differences between different constellations of psychological characteristics according to the categories of competition and their relationship with the perception of performance. This knowledge can be used by sports professionals: coaches, psychologists, physical educators, etc., in order to help athletes to reach their maximum performance.
- PublicationOpen Access’Creative accounting’ in the Spanish professional football League : An attempt to dodge the rules economic control?(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2025) Urdaneta Camacho, Rudemarlyn; Guevara Pérez, Juan Carlos; Martín Vallespín, EmilioOver the past decade, many studies have analysed the contribution of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP)regulations and the Reglamento de Control Económico (RCE) of the Spanish Football League (LFP) to thefinancial sustainability of clubs. However, compliance with the regulations may create incentives to adoptaccounting practices that seek to "dress up" the financial statements of clubs, deviating from the mainobjective of presenting a true and fair view of the entity. This study analyses the financial and non-financialfactors that lead to earnings management practices in Spanish professional football, to identify the impactthat the implementation of the LFP RCE has had on the quality of accounting information. Given theimportance of intangible assets in the football industry, as they represent the rights paid for the transfer ofplayers, the study uses Key’s (1997) model to consider this item to obtain discretionary accrual adjustments.Subsequently, panel data (FGLS) allows us to identify possible relationships between these adjustments andfinancial and non-financial variables. The results show that smaller and more leveraged first division clubs are more prone to manipulate their ac-counting information after the introduction of RCE. In contrast to previous studies focusing on large teams, the present study provides a comprehensive analysis of one of the most popular European leagues (theSpanish league), considering clubs of different sizes. In addition, the study opens a debate on the appropri-ateness of specific accounting parameters in the football industry, such as the treatment of intangible assetsrelated to player rights, which are one of the main items used by clubs to implement earnings management practices.
- PublicationOpen AccessDesign, Validation, and Reliability of an Observation Instrument or Technical and Tactical Actions of the Offense Phase in Soccer(Frontiers Media, 2019-01-24) Ortega Toro, Enrique; García Angulo, Antonio; Giménez Egido, José María; García Angulo, Francisco Javier; Palao, José M.; Actividad Física y DeporteThe use of observational methodology in the sports context provides coaches and other sports professionals with flexible tools that adapt to their needs. In collective sports, the use of these instruments is common for the technical and tactical analysis of the game. Based on the importance of data quality in these instruments, the purpose was to design, validate, and test the reliability of a mixed observational instrument of field formats and category systems to analyze technical and tactical actions in the offense phase in soccer. The instrument collects information regarding the actions with the ball, moment of the play (start, development, and end), and contextual situation for the offensive team and for the goalkeeper. The instrument design, validation, and reliability calculation were done in four stages: (a) review of the literature, (b) design the first draft of the instrument, (c) experts’ qualitative and quantitative review of the instrument, and (d) observer training test (reliability calculation). The content validity was established by 12 experts (Ph.D. in sports science or soccer coach with at least of 10 years of coaching experience). The Delphi methodology was used. Experts did a quantitative (scale 0–10) and qualitative evaluation. Experts were asked about: (a) comprehension of the criteria, categorical cores, degree of openness, and their definitions, (b) pertinence of categorical cores and degree of openness, and (c) whether to include other categorical cores or degree of openness in the observation instrument. The lowest Aiken’s V index was 0.91 for the categorical core “numerical situation with opponent goalkeeper.” The inter- and intra-observer reliability presented good levels of agreement. The lowest Kappa index was 0.96 for the inter-reliability in the categorical core “defensive pressing lines” and was 0.98 for the intra-reliability in the categorical core “ball height (start of ball possession),” “distance of the defensive player,” “ball height (end of ball possession),” “numerical situation,” and “defensive pressing lines.” The coefficients of the generalizability analysis showed a high level of accuracy, validity and reliability of the instrument. The results show that the instrument allows to obtain objective, valid and reliable information about the offensive phase in soccer.
- PublicationOpen AccessDevelopment of some aerobic and anaerobic indicators in under-21 footballers using hypoxic training mask during the physical preparation period(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023) Radhouane, Bentoumia; Haroune, Dif; Ali, Bengoua; Kada, Boumediene; Seddaoui, ChaChouThis study aims to identify the effect of a training program using the hypoxic training mask on certain aerobic capacities (VMA, VO2max), on the effectiveness of the repetition rate (RSA), and on the explosive power of football players. The sample was deliberately selected and included 20 football players under the age of 21 from the Tiaret youth team, which plays in the second professional division. A total of 10 players were assigned to a control group and the other 10 players to an experimental group. The research used a series of physical tests that included VMA/VO2max intermittent yo-yo tests and RSA repetition rate efficiency tests, in addition to the explosive force tests using the MYOTEST device. The same training program was applied to the experimental and control groups, with the first one using the mask for 8 weeks. The study concluded that there are statistically significant differences in the pre- and post-measurement of the experimental and control groups in the measurement of aerobic and anaerobic capacities in favor of the experimental group, who wears the hypoxic mask. This underlines the importance of using modern technological means in the process of physical preparation and raising the level and efficiency of the players to reach the highest levels of achievement.

- PublicationOpen AccessEffect of special exercises using VR4z glasses on some of the compound skills of young football players in Al-Diwaniyah clubs(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023) Haider Shamkhi, Mohamed; Jabbar Sahib, Salam; Hamid Rashid, Majid AbdelThis study seeks to investigate the importance, and the effect of using special exercises using VR4z glasses on some compound skills and tactical behavior of young football players. Virtual reality glasses are one of the modern means that play animportant role in developing intelligence and creating a clear picture of the performance of compound skills. It also has advantages that make the player live the atmosphere of the match in all its aspects, which leads to a high concentration and here lies the importance of research in the development of compound skills during matches. As for the research problem, the authors believethat most of the trainers do not use modern electronic means to develop compound skills through training, rather giving actual exercises on the field only, while the mental aspect is important when training and facilitates the process of mastery. Hence, the authors try to adopt VR4z glasses in the training process through special exercises in order to know the extent of their impact on the research sample.
- PublicationOpen AccessEffect of the cooperative learning strategy on the learning of the soccer throw-in in university students(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023) Hadi AlAridhee, Waleed Sameer; Hussein Kahat, Thamer; Mohammed Abdallah, WathikThe present research aimed to study the effect of the cooperative learning strategy on the learning of the soccer throw-in in university students. The research sample included 22 first-year students of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of the University of Al-Qadisiyah. The improvement was higher when the cooperative learning strategy was combined with the use of the soccer throw-in device. Considering these results, the authors recommend to combine the cooperative learning strategy with the use of the soccer throw-in device to teach the soccer throw-in in university students.
- PublicationOpen AccessUn enfoque usando los métodos de network para caracterizar las interacciones entre los jugadores: análisis de un juego(Universidad de Murcia, 2014) Clemente, Filipe Manuel; Lourenço Martins, Fernando Manuel; Santos Couceiro, Micael; Sousa Mendes, Rui; Figueiredo, António JoséThe aim of this case study was to apply a set of network metrics in order to characterize the teammates’ cooperation in a football team. These metrics were applied in three levels of analysis: i) micro (individual analysis); ii) meso (players’ contribution for the team); and iii) macro (global interaction of the team). One-single case study match was observed and from such procedure were analysed 131 attacking plays. Results from the macro analysis showed a moderate heterogeneity between teammates, thus suggesting the emergence of clusters within the team. The players with highest connections with their teammates were the right defender, central defender from the left side, defensive midfielder, right midfielder and the forward player. Finally, in the micro analysis was observed that right defender, central defender, right midfielder and the forward can be considered the centroid players during attacking plays, thus being the most prominent in the attacking building. In sum, the network metrics allowed to characterize the teammates’ interaction during the attacking plays, providing an important and different information that can be useful for the future of match analysis.
