- PublicationOpen AccessArte y periferia: prácticas relacionales y contextuales en la ciudad de Valencia(Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Murcia, 2025) Rodríguez Arias, Ángel Manuel; Peiró-López, Juan BautistaThis article begins with an exploration of Iria Candela’s book Sombras de Ciudad, this article examines contextual art in relation to the periphery and how it intertwines with gentrification and urban art. It begins by analyzing how the concept of the periphery has evolved in the Spanish context, highlighting the role of urban art as a critical and transformative tool capable of re-signifying the perception of the periphery and challenging dominant narratives. The case study presented in the city of Valencia exemplifies these dynamics, focusing on city-context artists such as Luce, Anaïs Florin, and Escif, who offer contextual proposals that connect with their environment and provide an aesthetic response to the social realities surrounding them.
- PublicationOpen AccessItinerarios del arte contemporáneo en la ciudad. Affinità. Cinque artisti per San Gimignano(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2025) Gómez Ubierna, MartaThe connection between art and the city in Italy is a rich and complex theme, deeply rooted in history and culture. This relationship has led to the recent transformation of urban public spaces into contemporary art laboratories, fostering a sense of belonging and critical reflection on the city. In this context, Giuliano Briganti and Luisa Laureati commissioned Affinità. Cinque artisti a San Gimignano starting in 1991, a gallery of contemporary sculptures created by Italian artists associated with Arte Povera, scattered throughout the public spaces of the historic center of San Gimignano (Italy). Following the principles of contextual art, as theorized by Paul Ardenne, the exhibition aimed to establish a dialogue on aesthetic affinities between the city’s medieval past and its present, through contemporary “infiltrations” that continue to revitalize public space today, creating an active experience.
- PublicationOpen AccessNuevos procesos y materiales pictóricos en el arte contextual. El proyecto rompiendo patrones como caso de estudio(Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Murcia, 2025) Gallego Martínez, María DoloresThe purpose of this article is to review in depth and in detail the main characteristics (conceptual, technical, aesthetic and artistic) of the site-specific pictorial project: Rompiendo Patrones[Breaking Patterns], as well as to make visible and highlight the entire co-creation process carried out by more than thirty-five people during the months of August and December 2023. In the various sections and subsections of the text, it explains how it was initially idealised in Romania and what kind of textile heritage that it is inspired. It also presents the various phases of the design process that took place in Granada (Spain) and discusses in detail the working methodology used to create the pieces, the assembly and opening in Doña Mencía (Córdoba, Spain) and the dismantling for conservation and possible exhibition in other places. Therefore, Rompiendo Patrones [Breaking Patterns] is an example of a contemporary painting made with textile techniques and materials, through digital and handcrafted processes, designed to be exhibited in a specific public context as textile graffiti and with the aim of publicly paying homage to women of previous generations. Rompiendo Patrones [Breaking Patterns] is one of the artistic projects created specifically for the 25th edition of DMencia 2023, the Contemporary Art Exhibition of Doña Mencía, curated by Moisés Bedmar and with the theme: ‘What happens in the street. Public art and citizen coexistence’.
