Facultad de Filosofía y Letras. Departamento de Filología Inglesa, Francesa y Alemana.Liminal trauma narratives provide access to the formal representation and the affective dimension of trauma. Anita Rau Badami’s multigenerational and transnational novel Can You Hear the Nightbird Call? (2006) is a case in point, in which in-betweenness is not merely a source of affliction but may develop into a stepping stone to a belated understanding of past tragedies in twentieth-century India and Canada. Through a relational and dialogical approach encompassing Indra’s net, postmemory, rhizomatic theory, and multidirectional memory, liminality is addressed in the family and historical spheres, tracing vertical and horizontal connections between characters and episodes, which, it is argued, challenge event-based models of trauma studies, stress the importance of emotional alliances, and promote the establishment of communities of memory. Ultimately, chronologies and hierarchies are discarded in favour of network arrangements as the most suitable way to deal with interconnected traumas.

The limitations for PA adherence is due the barriers found such as displeasure, discomfort, pain and sense of exhaustion. Self - selected exercise has been strategy for PA adherence, due greatest tolerance by aerobic exercise practitioners. The aim of this study was investigate physiological and psychological responses in prescribed and self - selected aerobic session s in postmenopausal women. It was recruited 30 women active. The study consisted 3 moments: familiarization, self - selected, prescribed sessions. The intensity of self - selected session was replicated in prescribed session. The normality and homogeneity of t he variances were verified using the Shapiro - Wilk and Levene tests, respectively a repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare HR, SD1, FS, RPE 6 - 20, time effect (5, 10, 15, and 20 min) x two sessions (Self - selected and Prescribed). The magnitudes of these differences were examined using the standardized difference based on Cohen’s d units by means of effect sizes (d). There was significant main effect of the time for heart rate (HR) (p=.047), FS (p=.009) and Borg scale (p=.012). Sess ion by time interaction the significant main effect in HR (p<.001). Significant mean difference was observed for psychological variables feeling scale (FS) (p= .011), Borg scale (p= .016) and internal training load (ITL) (p<.001). This study demonstrates t he relation of the self - selected session with more affective psychological responses and low perceived effort as well as greater physiological responses (HR and lnSD1) from 10 minutes in the prescribed session when compared to the self - selected.
- PublicationOpen AccessBody image and well-being in dance practitioners: An exploratory study(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de publicaciones, 2021) Faria, Beatriz; Frontini, Roberta; Antunes, RaulLiterature has been concerned with the effect of dance practice on several variables, namely well-being and body image (BI). This study aimed to analyse the perception of dance practitioners on BI and subjective well-being (positive and negative affect and satisfaction with life), comparing adolescents and adults. A sample of 91 dancers (18.08±5.12 years) was recruited and divided into two groups (adolescents 11-17 years; adults 18-34 years). The group of adolescents presented a higher perception of satisfaction with life compared to adults (p=0.041; d=-0.44). Regarding the relationships between variables, when analysing separately each group, in the group of adolescents the positive affect is related to satisfaction with life (r=0.64; p≤0.001) and negative affect (r=-0.32; p=0.026), while the negative affect is related to the hours of weekly practice (r=0.46; p=0.001). In the group of adults, positive affect is related to satisfaction with life (r=0.36; p=0.017) and weekly hours of practice (r=0.39;p=0.010), while negative affect is related satisfaction with life (r=-0.45; p=0.003). With regard to (dis)satisfaction with BI, we found that, in the group of adolescents, it is related to the years of practice (r=0.33; p=0.023) and the weekly hours of practice (r=0.32; p=0.023), while in the adults' group, satisfaction with life (r=-0.42; p=0.005) and negative affect (r=0.59; p≤0.001) are related. Our results leave some indicators that should be explored in future studies, namely seeking to understand the factors that may be mediating the relationship between BI and well-being, as well as the effect of age on this relationship.
- PublicationOpen AccessEfeitos psicológicos da música em praticantes de exercício: Uma revisão sistemática(Murcia: Servicio de publicaciones de la Universidad de Murcia, 2020) Carraça, Eliana V.Objetivo: Esta revisãosistemática teve o objetivo de sumariar a evidência existente sobre o efeito da presença de música durante a prática de exercício estruturado na motivação, vitalidade, resposta afetiva ao exercício e perceção subjetiva de esforço, entre outros fatores psicológicos, em praticantes regulares de exercício. Métodos: A pesquisa de artigos publicados até Janeiro de 2018 foi feita em 3 bases de dados (Pubmed, PsycINFO e SPORTDiscus), seguindo o modelo PICO, e complementada manualmente. A seguinte informação foi extraída dos artigos selecionados: tipo de estudo, características da intervenção, música (condição e instrumentos), outcomes (e instrumentos), resultados e qualidade metodológica. Esta última foi avaliada através do Quality Assessment Tool for QuantitativeStudies. Resultados: Foram incluídos 27 artigos. Destes, 4 reportaram efeitos na motivação, 11 na resposta afetiva ao esforço, 22 na perceção subjetiva de esforço e 5 nas componentes motivacionais da música. A presença de música mostrou-se positivamente associada a maiores níveis de motivação (n=3 de 4), a uma resposta afetiva ao exercício aparentemente mais positiva (n=6 de 11), mas na generalidade não se mostrou associada a menores níveis de perceção de esforço (n=14 de 22). Conclusão: Apesar da presençade música aparentar ter um efeito potencialmente positivo no nível de motivação e na resposta afetiva ao esforço, a variabilidade das amostras, dos protocolos de investigação e dos instrumentos utilizados na aferição das variáveis impossibilitam a retirada de conclusões, sublinhando a necessidade de novos estudos sobre esta temática.
- PublicationOpen AccessFormas y fuerzas: un acercamiento sobre el juicio reflexionante y el problema del afecto.(Ateneo Cantonal de Estudios Políticos (ACEP), 2022) Cruz Aguado, Mª Fernanda de los ÁngelesEl artículo explora la relación entre el juicio reflexionante y el afecto a través de la performatividad del lenguaje. Se propone que el vínculo entre esta forma del pensamiento y la dimensión afectiva puede entenderse como un entrelazamiento de dos registros diferenciados: uno de formas (interpretaciones sobre el mundo) y otro de fuerzas (los afectos que resisten la captura del lenguaje y lo social). El objetivo que se persigue es la restitución del cuerpo y sus afectos para el trabajo de pensamiento y la acción política, a la vez que la problematización de la comunicación entre la protesta feminista y la academia.
- PublicationOpen AccessEl Nostrum al Ejercicio: Cómo la Prescripción de Intensidad de Ejercicio Autoseleccionada e Impuesta se Relaciona con Resultados Afectivos, Cognitivos y Conductuales-Una Revisión Sistemática(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de publicaciones, 2024) Andrade, Ana; Bastos, Vasco; Teixeira, Diogo SantosPermitir seleccionar la intensidad del ejercicio se ha propuesto como un método para apoyar la adherencia al ejercicio, pero no se encontró ninguna exploración extensa que contrastara este enfoque con un método de intensidad impuesta. Esta revisión sistemática explora la relación entre la intensidad del ejercicio seleccionada por el usuario y los resultados afectivos, cognitivos y conductuales en contextos de actividad física. La búsqueda se realizó en las bases de datos PubMed, SPORTDiscus y PsycINFO con los criterios de inclusión: (1) experimentales y no experimentales; (2) publicados en una revista revisada por pares; (3) escritos en inglés; (4) que exploraran la autoselección de intensidad y/o la autorregulación en contextosde ejercicio; (5) muestras con individuos de entre 18 y 64 años; y (6) centrados en individuos aparentemente sanos. Veintinueve estudios (N=749 participantes) fueron incluidos para revisión, 25 explorando el ejercicio aeróbico y cuatro de resistencia. En general, la intensidad de ejercicio autoseleccionada mostró mejores resultados afectivos, cognitivos y conductuales positivos en comparación con la prescripción de intensidad de ejercicio impuesta, pero la alta heterogeneidad en los métodos y resultados justifica la precaución al interpretar los resultados. La autoselección de la intensidad puede promover la mejora de las respuestas afectivas, las percepciones de autonomía, la autoeficacia, la intención de ser físicamente activo, y más minutos de participación en el ejercicio. Las discrepancias en los métodos de autoselección de la intensidad, las diferencias en los protocolos de ejercicio y las características de las muestras ponen de manifiesto la necesidad de realizar más estudios
- PublicationOpen AccessLa Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale (PACES): Traducción al Portugués, Validez, Fiabilidad e Invarianza de Sexo(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de publicaciones, 2025) Bastos, Vasco; Santos, Filipe; Teixeira, Diogo Santos; Departamentosa investigación ha demostrado repetidamente que la diversión es un predictor relevante de la adherencia a la actividad física (AF). En consecuencia, una medida adecuada de la diversión es necesaria para el avance adecuado de la investigación de la adherencia a la AF, con la Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale(PACES) cumpliendo comúnmente este papel. Sin embargo, hasta ahora no se ha desarrollado una versión en portugués de la PACES original, lo que limita la investigación sobre el disfrute en este idioma. Como tal, este estudio tuvo como objetivo traducir y validar la primera versión EuropeaPortuguesa de 18 ítems de la PACES. Un total de 360 participantes (192 hombres), con edades comprendidas entre 19 y 73 años (M= 37.54; SD= 13.76), participaron en este estudio. Se utilizó el análisis factorial confirmatorio para probar las propiedades psicométricas con el software SPSS v. 27.0 y AMOS 23.0. También se realizaron análisis de fiabilidad compuesta, validez convergente, validez concurrente e invarianza de sexo. El modelo demostró un ajuste adecuado para la muestra del estudio. Además, se alcanzaron la fiabilidad compuesta y la validez convergente y concurrente. También se confirmó la invarianza de sexo, asegurando una medición adecuada tanto con varones como con mujeres. El PACES EuropeoPortugués de 18 ítems es un instrumento válido, fiable e invariante de sexo para medir la diversión en la AF. Se espera que este cuestionario permita la investigación hacia la adherencia a la AF. Futuros estudios deberán probar las propiedades psicométricas del PACES, particularmente con diferentes muestras y en exploraciones más amplias del constructo de la diversión.
- PublicationOpen AccessSelf-efficacy as a protective factor when translating under time pressure(Universidade de Vigo, 2024-01-15) Cifuentes Férez, Paula; Rojo López, Ana María; Espín López, Laura; Traducción e InterpretaciónThis study explores the relationship between translation trainees’ self-efficacy, their hormonal and subjective responses to the stress of translating under strict time limits, and how this impacts their actual translation performance. Participants completed a questionnaire on self-efficacy beliefs (Costa, Serrano, & Salvador, 2016), along with the State-and-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, Gorsuch, Lushene, Vagg, & Jacobs, 1983) and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (Watson, Clark, & Tellegen, 1988). They were also tasked with translating three literary texts from English to Spanish under varying time constraints and afterward provided feedback on their performance. Additionally, five cortisol salivary samples were collected during the session. Overall, the results indicate that self-efficacy beliefs act as a protective factor against stress, mitigating the negative effects of translating under time pressure. Interestingly, translation trainees with higher self-efficacy produced less accurate translations in terms of meaning under strict time pressure, in contrast to those with lower self-efficacy beliefs. Furthermore, elevated cortisol levels appeared to positively impact translation accuracy under the same conditions. --------------
- PublicationEmbargoTranslating Manner: the impact of violence on translation students’ strategies, affect and narrative transportation(Taylor and Francis Group, 2024-11-18) Rojo López, Ana María; Traducción e InterpretaciónThe present study explores the effects of reading and translating violent content on translation students’ affect, narrative transportation and strategies to reproduce manner information in the target text. Our hypotheses predict that negatively valenced content will influence translation students’ strategic behavior, levels of affect and narrative transportation differently from more neutral, positive content both after reading and translating. Results show that students added more manner information and made more mistakes in the negative text than in the neutral one. Violent content does not significantly impact students’ levels of negative affect, but increases their levels of narrative transportation to a greater extent than neutral content both after reading and translating. Nevertheless, results point to the greater potential of translation to foster narrative transportation.
