Entre telares, lavanderías y orín: el artesanado textil en la casa del Anfiteatro (Mérida, Badajoz)

This paper examines Roman textile craftsmanship at the Casa del Anfiteatro in Mérida (ancient Augusta Emerita). Through recent excavations and analysis of earlier finds, tools such as looms, needles, and pondera,as well as architectural remains of a fullonica(laundry) have been identified. The methodology combined material and contextual analysis. Results indicate the operation of at least one textrinumand a functioning fullonica, integrated into a residential complex now reinterpreted as hospitium. The discussion highlights the functional logic of these spaces in a service-oriented setting, where textile production and maintenance were crucial for both guests and staff. The discovery of vats, channels, and specialized flooring supports this hypothesis.
