dc.description.abstractThis article presents a new edition of the child sarcophagus fragment 94. 506 from the Condes de Lagunillas Collection (Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Cuba). Technical and iconographic analysis identifies the piece as the front of a sarcophagus with a domestic wake scene, articulated in terms of conclamatio. Comparison with the corpus of child sarcophagi with analogous scenes established by G. Koch and H. Sichtermann justifies its inclusion in this group and suggests a shared production enviroment or a network of Roman workshops active between the late second and early third centuries AD. On the epigraphic level, an edition and commentary of the unpublished epitaph are offered: its formula conforms to High Imperial funerary patterns, while the feminine anthroponym Epaphrodite (dat. sg.), explicable as declinatio semigraeca, constitutes a valuable and rare attestation of this Greek name in a Latin context. Finally, the specimen is contextualised as a device for the memorialisation of domestic luctus and as a material witness to mourning for child death in the Roman world.
dc.description.abstractEste artículo presenta una reedición del fragmento de sarcófago infantil 94. 506 de la Colección Condes de Lagunillas (Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Cuba). El análisis técnico e iconográfico permite identificar la pieza como frente de un sarcófago con escena de velatorio doméstico, articulada en clave de conclamatio. Su comparación con el corpus de sarcófagos infantiles con escena análoga establecido por G. Koch y H. Sichtermann justifica su inclusión en dicho grupo y sugiere un entorno productivo común o red de talleres romanos activos entre finales del siglo II e inicios del III d. C. En el plano epigráfico, se ofrece una edición y comentario del epitafio inédito, cuya fórmula se ajusta a patrones funerarios altoimperiales. Desde una perspectiva onomástica, el antropónimo femenino Epaphrodite (dat. sg.), explicable como declinatio semigraeca, constituye un valioso testimonio de este nombre griego poco frecuente en contexto latino. Finalmente, se contextualiza la pieza como dispositivo de memorialización del luctus doméstico y testigo material del proceso de duelo por muerte infantil en el ámbito romano.
