Abstract
The emergence of fin-de-siècle Catalan nationalism was grounded in the rise of the bourgeoisie during a period of political and cultural effervescence, shaped by the influence of Romanticism and Positivism. Within the process of the political articulation of Catalanism, the figure of Bartomeu Robert, a Catalan physician, politician, mayor of Barcelona, and member of Parliament, became particularly prominent, renowned for his opposition to caciquismo and his staunch defense of Catalan interests against the State. As the first president of the Lliga Regionalista, his thought reflected the racialist currents of the time, and following his death he was mythologized as an emblematic figure of Catalanism, while the more controversial aspects of his ideology were subsequently tempered.
