Abstract
This paper studies the panorama of women in Ptolemaic Egypt from a philological, papyrological and sociological point of view. A corpus of six letters in Greek from Zenon’s archive is individually investigated, whose senders were women of different ages, social backgrounds and origins, considering the material aspects, such as the format or the characteristics of the scribes’ hand. Furthermore, the content of each letter is also examined, paying special attention to their lives, the characteristics of the language, the typical formulas and the topics of the life of women. Firstly, an introduction to Zenon and his archive and the women mentioned in it is carried out. Following this, a translation of the letters based on the transcription is offered, together with an analysis of each letter with the support of the secondary bibliography. In the conclusion, all the letters of the women previously studied are put together, examining the palaeographic features and the formats, as well as the characteristics of the Greek language, the formulas and the situation of the featured women.
