Description
Abstract
Abstract: Defining and translation "by-catch" to Spanish: an inconsistent term in fisheries biology Translation of scientific terms to Spanish could bring confusion in many cases. In addition, the term by-catch (= bycatch), carry an added difficulty because it has inconsistency in its definition and transcription. In this paper the most common definitions of by-catch are reviewed, and a Spanish translation is proposed as “captura acompañante”. We define by-catch as: "the components of the catch, taken during a fishing operation, which are not target species towards fishing effort is directed, and that may be retained on board or returned to the sea. Moreover, we proposed other translations and definition for relate words
