dc.description.abstract	El trabajo pretende presentar una breve síntesis del origen y desarrollo de la apicultura cubana desde la introducción de las abejas en la isla en 1764, su adaptación y productividad. El florecimiento de la apicultura como fuente de abastecimiento de cera en los siglos XVIII y XIX, la decadencia del sector por la aparición de otros medios de alumbrado. El desarrollo posterior de la apicultura a partir de la segunda mitad del siglo XX con las medidas de estímulo al sector adoptadas por el Gobierno, el record productivo alcanzado en los años 80 de esa centuria y la diversificación productiva y científico-técnica. Se relacionan las principales plantas melíferas cubanas, el calendario de floración a lo largo del año y su importancia productiva. Se presenta el valor de las abejas como agentes polinizadores en la agroecología de los principales cultivos agrícolas, especialmente las cucurbitáceas y los frutales. Se resalta también el papel de las abejas como indicadoras de la calidad ambiental. Un aspecto a resaltar es la presentación resumida de las medidas aplicadas por los investigadores, autoridades y apicultores para enfrentar la Varroa sin utilizar medicamentos o productos químicos en las colmenas desde hace unos 15 años. Por último se presenta un breve resumen del estado de actual de la apicultura cubana y sus perspectivas de desarrollo hasta el año 2030.	es
dc.description.abstract	The paper pretends to present a short review on the origin and development of Cuban bee- keeping starting from bee’s introduction on the island in 1774, its adaptation to the tropical conditions and productivity. It is also presented the further beekeeping flourishing as source of wax for candles during the XVIII and XIX centuries and the sector decay after new lighting ways appearance. Other section contains the further beekeeping development from the second half of the XX century as consequence of sector development measures adopted by the Government, the productive record achieved during the 80s of this century and the productive and scientific diversification achieved also in this time. There are presented the main honey plants of the island, the flowering calendar along the year and their productivity. It is also presented bee’s importance as pollinators for agro ecological production of most important crops, mainly Cucurbitaceae and fruit trees. It is highlighted bee’s importance as indicators of environmental quality. An important subject to outstand is the general strategy followed by researchers, specialists, authorities and beekeepers to face Varroa without using chemical products or drugs since 15 years ago. Finally, it is shown a short review on the present situation of Cuban beekeeping and its development prospective until year 2030.	es
