Description
Abstract
importante presencia de piezas magrebíes, algunas i
This article presents an Almo had coin hoard found in Moncarapacho (Olhão, Algarve, Portugal). This treasure is cataloged and analyzed in the context of Peninsular findings, which allows to conclude both the importance of the hoard as well as issues related to the circulation of Almoha d coins and their imitations found in the Iberian Peninsula. The importance of this treasure lies in its exceptionality, not only because it’s the first published silver hoard found in Portugal, but also because of the significant presence of Maghrebi piec es, some being unprecedented in Peninsular findings, as they present new mints, and also because of the presence of a dirham fragment of the Ḥammūdid Caliphate, which not only has never been found up to now in an Almohad hoarding, but also witnesses the ex istence of the Ḥammūdid currencies in a well - documented hoard in present - day Portugal for the first tim
