Description
Abstract
The article presents a brief approach to sucked trumpets, a category of little-known and widespread aerophones, belonging to the natural trumpets' family, with presence among indigenous peoples from Eurasia and the Americas. The text, based on an extensive bibliographic review, provides organological definitions, take a brief tour among the Eurasian instruments, and focuses particularly on briefly describing the three examples of this type of instrument identified in Latin America: the toxacatl of Mexico, the trumpet of the Aché of Paraguay and the ñolkiñ of the Mapuche of Chile. Given the evident setback that these three instruments and their repertoires have suffered, it is concluded that further research and, above all, an adequate dissemination of their sounds and possibilities, could help their long-term survival.
