Abstract
El término “nación” es una fuente constante de malentendidos sobre las entidades colectivas en cualquier comparación entre Europa Oriental y Occidental. En este artículo hemos contrastado el significado jacobino, derivado del contractualismo de la Ilustración, para el que la nación es un proyecto político (una sociedad que no tiene existencia fuera de un Estado), con la acepción romántica, derivada de las tesis herderianas, para las cuales la nación es ante todo un pueblo, una lengua y una cultura (una comunidad homogénea que puede preceder a cualquier Estado). Hemos analizado también cómo funcionan estas dos acepciones en tanto que categorías discursivas.
Abstract: The term ‘nation’ is a constant source of misunderstanding about collective entities in any comparison between Eastern and Western Europe. In this article we have contrasted the Jacobin meaning, derived from Enlightenment contractualism, for which the nation is a political project (a society that has no existence outside a state), with the Romantic meaning, derived from the Herderian thesis, for which the nation is primarily a people, a language and a culture (a homogeneous community that can precede any state). We have also analysed how these two meanings function as discursive categories.
