Description
Abstract
Volverás a Región
,
Una meditación
,
Un viaje de
invierno
,
La otra casa de Mazón
,
Saúl ante Samuel
,
Herrumbrosas lanzas
y
La
inspiración y el estilo
convenien
te
al respecto
In this art i cle , I am going to discuss the self - conscious character of the narrative of Juan Benet and how from its own sel f - referent i a l character one can detect metaliterary data that can lead us to see his bet for a new kind of novel that is opposed to the positivistic, realistic, naturalistic and literature of manners methods from the nineteenth century and from the Spanish Civil War po stwar. I am going to study the following aspects: 1. - Benet’s refined style, 2. - the absence of a stable and omniscient narrator compensated by a plurality of points of view and of narrative voices, 3. - the monologues and dialogues that function as monolog ues , 4. - the architextual mixture of genres in many of his novels , 5. - the value and structure of the digressions , 6. - the “lack of decorum ” in the speeches of the characters in which all of them talk similarly to the author and become representatives and symbols of his irrationalist ic ideology , 7. - the intertextual dialogue with its critics and 8. - t he disposition of the ficticious chronotope . For this, I will study many of his novels and essays, the most important of which are Volverás a Región (Return to Region) , Una meditación (A meditation) , Un viaje de invierno (A Winter Trip ) , La otra casa de Mazón (The Other House of Mazón) , Saúl ante Samuel (Saúl in f r o nt of Samuel) , Herrumbrosas lanzas ( Rusty Spears ) y La inspiración y el estilo (Inspiration and Sty le) . In addition, I am going to use his interviews and his critics
