Abstract
Este es el primero de dos artículos sobre las características ecológicas de los humedales costeros del SE
de España. En él se presenta un inventario de los complejos palustres de la franja costera comprendida entre la
ciudad de Alicante y el límite occidental de la Región de Murcia, se revisa la información publicada e inédita
existente sobre sus características ecológicas, y se establece una tipología de los mismos basada en variables
del medio físico y biótico. Excluyendo los estrictamente artificiales, se han registrado 16 humedales comprendidos
en nueve tipos. Se discuten las semejanzas de la tipología obtenida con otras clasificaciones de humedales,
así como la contribución de las distintas variables a la tipificación.
This is the first of two articles dealing with the ecological characteristics of coastal wetlands of SE Spain. It includes an inventory of standing waters located in the coastal fringe between Alicante city and the western limit of Murcia Region, a review of published and unpublished information on their ecological characteristics, and a tipology of these wetlands based on physical and biotic variables. Excluding the strictly artificial ones, 16 wetlands have been inventoried, belonging to nine types. Toe tipology obtained is compared with other wetland classification schemes, the contribution of the different variabies to the tipification being also discussed.
