Abstract

RESUMEN La obra de Guillermo Arriaga constituye un recorrido visual y literario por la figura tanto del inmigrante como de otras posibilidades de ciudadanía. Sin suponer un tema central en su obra —aunque omnipresente—, Arriaga lleva a cabo una descripción del sutil imperialismo norteamericano (muy presente en la actualidad) y del poscolonialismo yankee. El análisis de filmes como Amores perros, 21 gramos, Babel, o novelas como El salvaje ofrece una expansión de la figura del inmigrante y el outsider, partiendo del escenario que supone México, cruzando la frontera con los Estados Unidos y desarrollándose a lo largo del globo. De manera paralela, el trabajo de Guillermo Arriaga sugiere que la minusvaloración del pueblo sudamericano y el colonialismo imperialista estadounidense hunden sus raíces mucho antes de la Era Trump, y que la política de éste no es sino una radicalización de posturas existentes con anterioridad. Arriaga nos ofrece, a la postre, un material inestimable para comprender la realidad de la inmigración y una lectura esperanzadora de las nuevas formas de convivencia interracial e intercultural.

ABSTRACT The work of Guillermo Arriaga constitutes a visual a nd literary tour of the figure of both the immigrant and other possibilities of citizenship. Without assuming a central theme in his work, although omnipresent, Arriaga carries out a description of subtle North American imperialism (very present today) and of Yankee postcolonialism. The analysis of films like Amores perros, 21 grams, Babel, or novels like El salvaje offers an expansion of the figure of the immigrant and the outsider, starting from the scenario that supposes Mexico, crossing the border with the United States and developing along the globe. At the same time, Guillermo Arriaga's work suggests that the undervaluation of the South American people and US imperialist colonialism are rooted long before the Trump Era, and that its policy is nothing more than a radicalization of previously existing positions. Arriaga offers us, in the end, an invaluable material to understand the reality of immigration and a hopeful reading of the new forms of interracial and intercultural coexistence.
