La Santa Muerte y el sincretismo en la obra de Homero Aridjis

Abstract

El artículo propone una lectura antropológica del cuento "La Santa Muerte" de Homero Aridjis. Se realiza una revisión de diferentes acercamientos a la interpretación del culto a la Santa Muerte, mostrando su origen colonial y la variedad de tradiciones actuales. El concepto de sincretismo resulta crucial para el análisis, teniendo en cuenta tanto los aspectos literarios de la obra, como la selección de elementos religiosos que giran en torno a la idea de sacrificio. Aridjis sincretiza los culturemas prehispánicos de diferentes tradiciones con algunos rasgos contemporáneos del culto, creando una forma sui generis atribuida a los círculos de narcotráfico.

The article proposes an anthropological reading of the short story "Santa Muerte" by Homer Aridjis. A review of different approaches to the interpretation of the cult of Santa Muerte is made, showing its colonial origin and the variety of current traditions. The concept of syncretism is crucial for the analysis, taking into account both the literary aspects of the work and the selection of religious elements that revolve around the idea of sacrifice. Aridjis syncretizes the pre-Hispanic culturemes belonging to different traditions with some contemporary features of the cult, creating a sui generis form attributed to drug trafficking circles.
