La Vega Media del Segura : caracterización del medio físico y humano y su impacto en la transformación del paisaje

Abstract

El presente trabajo de investigación ha tenido como objetivo el estudio de la evolución de la población en los cinco municipios de la Vega Media del Segura: Alguazas, Ceutí, Lorquí, Molina de Segura y las Torres de Cotillas, y cómo sus cambios han contribuido a modificar el espacio. El análisis de las características del medio físico como condicionante para el asentamiento humano, y la evolución demográfica desde los censos más representativos de la época contemporánea hasta la actualidad, junto con el padrón de habitantes de las últimas décadas del siglo XX hasta el año 2014, muestran como entre todos estos municipios, Molina de Segura ha ejercido un protagonismo que desde finales del siglo XIX hasta la actualidad ha ido incrementándose; sin embargo, desde mediados de los años ochenta, el resto de municipios han experimentado también unos cambios muy grandes. La primera hipótesis planteada es que los municipios de Alguazas, Ceutí, Lorquí, y Las Torres de Cotillas no habían evolucionado como Molina de Segura, a pesar de tener las mismas características espaciales, históricas y socioculturales, por su mayor grado de ruralización, con sistemas de producción demasiado arcaicos, lo que pudo motivar un crecimiento demográfico mucho más lento. El análisis de las principales variables demográficas, como el crecimiento natural de la población, muestra tasas de crecimiento superiores a la media regional, aunque no se llega al reemplazo generacional, por lo que el crecimiento demográfico se debe sobre todo a la inmigración, con un claro protagonismo desde los municipios cercanos, sobre todo desde Murcia capital. Esto ha contribuido a la evolución del poblamiento, expandiéndose hacia espacios de reciente urbanización, lo que ha servido para llegar a conclusiones muy interesantes, considerando que a priori se desestimaron otros factores muy decisivos y determinantes que condicionan la actual expansión demográfica y la modificación del paisaje, y que minimizan la relación directa entre el desarrollo económico de un municipio y el crecimiento demográfico, tales como las buenas vías de comunicación con la capital, la disponibilidad de suelo urbano, la vivienda más económica, los buenos servicios educativos y sanitarios, el entorno natural, etc. En definitiva, podemos afirmar que Murcia capital se expande hacia el Norte descongestionando la ciudad, y estos municipios quedan bajo su área de influencia, lo que hace previsible la continuidad de flujos y el crecimiento de estos municipios en los próximos años.

Abstract: The objective of this research has been the study of the evolution of the population in the five municipalities of the "Vega Media" of Segura River: Alguazas, Ceutí, Lorquí, Molina de Segura and Las Torres de Cotillas, and how changes in population have contributed to modify the territory. The analysis of the characteristics of the physical environment as a conditioning factor for human settlement and demographic evolution from the most representative population census of contemporary times to the present, along with the territorial statistics of the last decades of the twentieth century until 2014, show how between all these municipalities, Molina de Segura has had a leading role since the late nineteenth century to the present, it has even been increasing, but since the mid-eighties, other municipalities have also experienced some very big changes. The first hypothesis is that the municipalities of Alguazas, Ceutí, Lorquí and Las Torres de Cotillas had been not developed as Molina de Segura, despite having the same spatial, historical and cultural features. His greatest degree of ruralization, with too archaic production systems, may have led to a much slower population growth. The analysis of the main demographic variables, such as the natural growth of the population, sample rates above the regional average growth, although rates have failed to reach the replacement level, so that population growth is due mainly to immigration, with a clear role of the population coming from nearby towns, especially from Murcia city. This fact has contributed to the evolution of the peopling, expanding it into spaces of recent urbanization, which has served to reach interesting conclusions, considering that, a priori, some very decisive and determining factors that influence the current population growth and landscape modification were rejected; and that minimize the direct relationship between economic development of a municipality and population growth, such as good roads to the capital (Murcia city), the availability of urban land, the most affordable housing, good education and health services, natural environment, etc. In sum, we can say that Murcia city expands to the north decongesting the city; and these municipalities are under their influence area, which makes predictable the continuity of flows and the growth of these municipalities in the coming years.
