Resumen: In spite of the importance of the communication media in today's society andas an educational phenomenon, little has been done to integrate their use in schools in accordan- ce with the proposals laid out in the Currículum, and teaching continues to be traditional, monopolized by the use of the text book. This article intends to outline the contribution to teaching the communication media could make and advises a consideration of this contribution when devising pedagogical projects, bearing in mind the pupil's preparation to deal with the realities of daily life. The emphasis ought to be taken from the School's transmission of information in order to encourage an active and selective search for information by pupils, incorporating the me- dia as an organized integrated part of the project, after previous diagnosis and debate by the team of teachers. The use of the communication media would act as a back up and support in the deve- lopment of didactic units made up of activities of di verse grades of difficulty, chosen by the teacher in order to stimulate a process of communication amongst the participants.
