Un giro en espiral: relectura y prevalencia de la mirada esencialista en Alejo Carpentier.

Abstract

En este artículo se examina, a través de un análisis comparativo desde los libretos de Alejo Carpentier y su novela Concierto barroco, la persistencia de una mirada esencialista sobre la identidad latinoamericana y la representación de la alteridad cultural. En última instancia, se sugiere que la tensión irresuelta entre esencialismo y el intento de proyectar sobre lo americano una idea mestiza o transcultural de la identidad revelan las limitaciones de su proyecto literario frente a los desafíos de la cuestión identitaria en Latinoamérica, lo que contrasta con otros autores asociados a la posmodernidad que enfatizan elementos rizomáticos y cierta fluidez cultural.

Abstract: This article examines, through a comparative analysis of Alejo Carpentier's scripts and his novel Concierto barroco, the persistence of an essentialist perspective on Latin American identity and the representation of cultural otherness. Ultimately, it suggests that the unresolved tension between essentialism and the attempt to project a mestizo or transcultural notion of identity onto the Americas reveals the limitations of Carpentier's literary project in addressing the challenges of identity in Latin America. This contrasts with other authors associated with postmodernity, who emphasize rhizomatic elements and a certain cultural fluidity.
