Biografía de D. Cristóbal Hernández Roca (1921-2011): Descripción y puesta en valor del material clínico donado a la Facultad de Veterinaria de Murcia (España)

Abstract

El trabajo reivindica la figura y trayectoria profesional del veterinario D. Cristóbal Hernández Roca (Ma-zarrón, 1921-Murcia, 2011) y describe y pone en valor el material clínico que en vida donó a la Facultad de Veterinaria de la Universidad de Murcia (FVTUM) consistente en un banco de herrar, instrumental relacionado con la clínica equina y el esqueleto articulado de un caballo. Los objetivos planteados fueron: 1) Completar la biografía de D. Cristóbal Hernández Roca; 2) Hacer una descripción del material clínico donado; 3) Formular propuestas para poner en valor el material objeto de donación. Para conseguir los objetivos se han consultado hemerotecas digitales, libros, tesis doctorales, artículos, periódicos y páginas web que pudieran aportar datos sobre el Dr. Hernández Roca y el arte de herrar. Los resultados obtenidos nos han permitido considerar al Dr. D. Cristóbal Hernández Roca uno de los veterinarios más relevantes de la Región de Murcia (España) del siglo XX, muy implicado en la enseñanza teórica y práctica del arte de herrar. Licenciado (Córdoba, 1951) y Doctor en Veterinaria (Madrid, 1973), el Dr. Hernández Roca desarrolló su labor profesional en diferentes localidades de la Región de Murcia, destacando como especialista en clínica equina y de pequeños animales, investigacio-nes en alimentación animal, inspección en mataderos, defensor y promotor del arte de herrar. Biznieto de albéi-tar herrador y nieto e hijo de herradores, dejó constancia de sus profundos conocimientos con la publicación de dos libros, “Patología del pie del caballo y nociones del arte de herrar y forjar” (1997) y “Teoría y práctica del arte de herrar y de forjar” (2004). Asimismo, se han conseguido identificar y describir los instrumentos donados relacionados con la clínica equina, la mayoría de ellos usados en el arte de herrar y forjar. Finalmente, presen-tamos propuestas de textos explicativos que permitan la interpretación y puesta en valor del material donado y actualmente expuesto en el vestíbulo de la FVTUM

The work vindicates the figure and professional career of the veterinarian Mr. Cristóbal Hernández Roca (Mazarrón, 1921-Murcia, 2011) and describes and values the clinical material that he donated to the FVTUM during his lifetime, consisting of a horseshoe bench, instruments related to the equine clinic and the articulated skeleton of a horse. The objectives set were: 1) Complete the biography of Mr. Cristóbal Hernández Roca; 2) Make a description of the donated clinical material; 3) Formulate proposals to value the donated material. To achieve the objectives, digital newspaper archives, books, doctoral theses, articles, newspapers and websites that could provide data about Doctor. Hernández Roca and the art of shoeing have been consulted. The results obtained have allowed us to consider Doctor Cristóbal Hernández Roca one of the most relevant veterinarians in the Region of Murcia in the 20th century, very involved in the theoretical and practical teaching of the art of shoeing. Graduate (Córdoba, 1951) and Doctor in Veterinary Medicine (Madrid, 1973), Doctor Hernández Roca developed his professional work in different locations in the Region of Murcia, standing out as a specialist in equine and small animal clinics, research in animal nutrition, inspection in slaughterhouses, defender and promoter of the art of shoeing. Great-grandson of Albéitar farrier and grandson and son of farriers, he left evi-dence of his profound knowledge with the publication of two books, “Pathology of the horse’s foot and notions of the art of shoeing and forging” (1997) and “Theory and practice of the art of shoeing and forging” (2004). Likewise, it has been possible to identify and describe the donated instruments related to the equine clinic, most of them used in the art of shoeing and forging. Finally, we present proposals for explanatory texts that allow the interpretation and enhancement of the material donated and currently displayed in the lobby of FVTUM
